Jannik Sinner Wimbledon Champion!
Sports Desk, July 12 (EFE).-
Italy’s Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Wimbledon title on Sunday, defeating Germany’s Alexander Zverev 6-7(7), 7-6(2), 6-3, 6-4. With this victory, the San Candido native secured his second consecutive trophy at the All England Club and increased his career Grand Slam total to five.

The world number one needed three hours and 47 minutes to overcome his opponent in the London final. This triumph marks his first major title of the 2026 season, adding to a resume that already includes two Australian Open titles and one US Open.

The match was defined by the strength of both players’ serves. The first two sets were exceptionally tight, with no service breaks recorded. Zverev claimed the first set in a hard-fought tiebreak 9-7, snapping a six-match streak without winning a set against the Italian.

Sinner responded immediately in the second set. The Italian played his best tennis in the tiebreak, winning it 7-2 to level the match. This proved to be the turning point, as the physical demands began to take their toll on the German in the third set, leading to a dip in his serving intensity.

In the eighth game of the third set, Sinner secured the match’s first service break, allowing him to pull ahead 5-3 and close out the set. Zverev, visibly fatigued, requested a brief medical timeout to regroup, but the momentum had already firmly shifted toward the defending champion.

The fourth set confirmed the Italian’s dominance. Sinner claimed another crucial break in the seventh game, maintaining his advantage with composure until the final point. With this win, the 24-year-old becomes the tenth player in the Open Era to successfully defend the Wimbledon title.

For Zverev, the result marks his tenth consecutive loss against the ATP tour leader. Despite the defeat, the German leaves London with a positive takeaway, rising to world number two and displacing Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the rankings.
Sinner reaffirms his spectacular season, having lost only three matches to date. On Monday, he will begin his 79th week at the top of the world rankings, heading home with a £3.6 million prize and the undisputed status as the player to beat on the circuit. EFE
