Alexander Zverev wins first Grand Slam Title!
Alexander tried three times before. Her 4th attempt paid off!
Paris, June 7 (EFE).-
Fourth time was the charm for Germany’s Alexander Zverev, 29, who claimed his first Grand Slam title on Sunday after securing a hard-fought victory in the Roland Garros final against Italy’s Flavio Cobelli, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), and 6-1.

The world No. 3 had to battle for four hours and 16 minutes to achieve what had eluded him two years ago in Paris, in 2020 at the US Open, and last year at the Australian Open.

Both players, who are close friends off the court, embraced at the end of the match, after the German collapsed onto the clay to celebrate his first Grand Slam title.

Although the German showed more dominance, the Italian clung until the very end, and it was only in the fifth set that the difference between them emerged.

The Italian committed 65 unforced errors to the German’s 54; major mistakes at key moments and the inability of either player to impose their game led to a thrilling final set.

At that moment, the German proved superior to the Italian, who until now had never advanced past the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam.

The Italian was slow to get into the match but clung to the contest, and after coming back twice, he forced a fifth set in which his stamina was no longer enough.

The German player’s consistency in the later rounds ultimately paid off. Zverev claimed the 25th title of his career, which also includes seven Masters 1000 titles.
The French Open is the first trophy he has lifted this season, in which he has recorded 35 wins, 20 of them on clay. EFE
