Mexico City, Jul 14 (EFE).-
Alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of Mexico’s most powerful drug trafficking organizations, declared war on rival criminal groups in Mexico City, Unión Tepito and the Tláhuac Cartel, according to a video posted on social media on Tuesday.

The video shows several hooded individuals carrying firearms and wearing vests with the initials CJNG at an unidentified location as one of them reads a manifesto attributed to the criminal group.
“A warning to all residents of Mexico City and the State of Mexico. We’re coming for all the extortionists and ‘cobrapisos’ from Unión Tepito and the Tláhuac Cartel, those impostors who claim to be part of the organization. Your gold mine has run dry,” said the alleged CJNG member.

The conflict aims to go after “all those who are collecting rent (extorting) in our name,” he stated. “We’re here to restore order, not to cause trouble. We are the Jalisco New Generation Cartel,” he concluded.
The CJNG, designated a terrorist organization by the United States in 2025, is one of the leading drug cartels in all of Mexico.

In February, the Mexican Army killed “El Mencho,” the leader of a criminal organization, during a federal operation in the mountains of western Jalisco, sparking a day of violence marked by armed clashes where 25 soldiers and 33 criminals were killed.

Authorities have not yet commented on the video or the threat of war between rival groups in Mexico City.
The CJNG has previously used videos to spread intimidating messages against rival groups or journalists. For example, in 2021, members of the Mexican cartel threatened reporter Azucena Uresti.

One of the two targets of the threats is Unión Tepito, a criminal group involved in extortion and small-scale drug trafficking in Mexico City. According to the InSight Crime Foundation, it emerged between 2009 and 2012 following a split from the Beltrán Leyva Cartel and the Familia Michoacana criminal organization.
Meanwhile, the Tláhuac Cartel operates in Mexico City’s eastern part and the neighboring State of Mexico in central Mexico.
