Immigrants’ rights organization Resistencia en Accion NJ is planning a march for May Day, or International Workers’ Day, to call for improvements in workers’ rights and an end to ICE, war, and genocide.

“We are expecting more than a thousand people to attend,” says Jenni Lopez, lead organizer with the mobilization. This represents an increase from last year’s almost 800 participants.  “The entire Resistencia team is planning this for our 17 years in the struggle for our migrant community’s rights.”

The event will begin with a group of 50 cyclists traveling from Trenton to Princeton, arriving at 5:30pm. The crowds of participants will then gather at the Fountain of Freedom at 6:00pm with numerous signs and chants of people power.

May Day at Princeton this year will also be joined and co-sponsored by almost thirty organizations, including the American Friends Service Committee, the Alliance of Jewish Progressives, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network (NDLON), and others.

This action is in the spirit of human, worker, and immigrant rights under attack by the Trump administration. “May Day is important so people know that we are out here fighting against injustices like wage theft and ICE detentions,” says Elido, community worker leader, “the march will show that we are all united in this.”
