Austin, US, Jul 7 (EFE).-
An ICE agent killed a Mexican migrant in Houston, Texas, in “self-defense,” according to a government spokesperson who spoke with EFE.
The deceased was identified as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican citizen with an irregular migrant status in the United States, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The incident occurred around 6:50 am local time, when ICE agents attempted to stop a vehicle as part of a targeted operation to arrest Salgado Araujo.
According to the government’s account, Salgado attempted to flee, rammed an official vehicle with his car, and disobeyed several verbal commands.

The spokesperson stated that Salgado used his vehicle as a weapon and attempted to run over an agent, who then fired in self-defense. Salgado was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The FBI is leading the investigation and has deployed agents to the scene, the spokesperson said.

Authorities have not yet provided further details regarding the number of shots fired, the identity of the officer involved, or whether there are any recordings of the incident.

At least six people, including two US citizens, Alex Pretty and Renée Goodman, were killed by immigration agents in the US during a large-scale operation in Minnesota in January. EFE aaca/dgp/mcd
