Businessman and former footballer David Beckham received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Friday.
During the ceremony, he expressed his gratitude for the influence the United States has had on his life, appearing alongside his wife, Victoria Beckham, and actor Tom Cruise.

“I must admit that this is all rather surreal. I’ve experienced some amazing moments in my career, but to be here in Los Angeles receiving a star on the world famous Walk of Fame is truly incredible,” said the former football star.

The former captain of the England Three Lions explained that American cinema, the perspective of sport as entertainment in the US, and figures such as Michael Jordan drew him progressively closer to the North American country, to the point where he now considers it his “second home.”

“He (Jordan) is the reason that I wore number 23. And he showed that you could be more than just an athlete,” he noted.
Cruise, whom the former footballer described as “the greatest movie star of our time,” delivered a speech recognizing Beckham’s contribution to the growth of soccer in the US, both as a player for the LA Galaxy and later as the owner of Inter Miami.\
“You’ve got to understand. When David first came to Los Angeles, that moment would have seemed utterly impossible. There is no Messi in this city if not for David Beckham. If he doesn’t decide to come here first, that’s the impact we’re celebrating today. Not just an extraordinary career, but a legacy that changed the trajectory of the sport,” his friend expressed.

The ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ actor described Beckham’s story as Hollywood-worthy, highlighting the “hard work and dedication” the former athlete and businessman has demonstrated at every stage of his life.

“Long before the trophies, the sold out stadiums, the global fame, the recognition, there was a young boy with a dream, and a determination, and discipline to earn everything. That’s why this feels like such a fitting place for us to celebrate him,” said the three-time Oscar-nominated actor.

Victoria Beckham also took to the podium to highlight the vision, determination, and hard work that define her husband, whom she has accompanied for the last 27 years across his various roles as an athlete, businessman, and activist.
“But I’d also like to acknowledge his kindness, his loyalty, and his commitment to the people that he loves,” expressed the former Spice Girl.

The ceremony, held in the context of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, for which Los Angeles serves as an official host city, was also attended by actress Eva Longoria, former LA Galaxy teammates, and his children Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. However, Brooklyn, who has been estranged from the family over the past year, was not present.
“Kids, I hope you bring my grandchildren here one day and tell them about a boy who dreamed big. To make you all proud is my greatest achievement. I’m so grateful for you all. I love you and thank you so much for this honor,” Beckham concluded.
