Director James Cameron, who wrote the tribute, praised the Oscar-winning actress for starring in films with a combined box office total exceeding that of any other actor.

He also highlighted her versatility, pride in her Afro-Latina roots, and influence both on and off screen.

Cameron said she is “known to many by her vivid, non-human characters: the surly, deadpan Gamora and the ferocious warrior-mother Neytiri” in the Avatar saga and Gamora in the Marvel universe.

And for those closer to her, “she is the most gracious, loyal, loving, and fiercely protective mother, wife, friend, and all-around incredible human being we know. “

According to the filmmaker, her performances have established Saldaña as a central figure in contemporary cinema, capable of balancing emotional vulnerability with physical strength.

Time also highlighted her presence in major Hollywood franchises including “Star Trek,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” and “Emilia Pérez,” the film for which she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

The magazine further recognized her commitment to complex female characters and her expansion into producing, writing and directing.

Among other Latin American figures on the list, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum was included in the Leaders category alongside US President Donald Trump.

Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro appeared in the Artists category, while Peruvian activist Mari Luz Canaquiri Murayari and Brazilian researcher Luciano Moreira were recognized among Innovators.

Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro and activist Kica Matos were listed in the Icons category.

US Senator Marco Rubio and IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi were also included among leaders, while Chicana activist Dolores Huerta appeared in the Pioneers category. EFE
