Mandani calls for Benjamin’s Arrest!

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Tuesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “not welcome” in the city and called on the federal government to execute the arrest warrant issued against him by the International Criminal Court (ICC)
In a new video message posted to his social media accounts, Mamdani said his administration reviewed the available legal options and concluded that the city lacks the authority to independently enforce the ICC warrant.
He therefore urged the federal government to act if Netanyahu travels to New York, where he traditionally attends the UN General Assembly in September.
In the video, which he titled “Netanyahu is a war criminal,” the mayor specified that it is “clear” his administration does not have the independent legal authority to enforce this warrant.
“The federal government, however, does, and I call on them to join the ICC and execute this warrant,” he said.
“I want to be equally clear – Benjamin Netanyahu is not welcome in New York City. Nor is any other war criminal at large,” he said.
The post comes just days after Mamdani told The New York Times that he was working with his administration’s legal team on how to carry out Netanyahu’s arrest for his alleged war crimes.
Trump responded to Mamdani’s statements the previous day, assuring that Netanyahu “will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form while in the United States of America.”
The US president defended his ally in a message posted on his Truth Social network, although he did not directly mention the mayor of New York.
Mamdani, 34, the first Muslim mayor of New York, has called Netanyahu a “war criminal” in reference to the ICC arrest warrant for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
The ICC issued the warrant against the Israeli prime minister in November 2024, a measure that Israel rejects and that the US also does not recognize. EFE dte/tw
