ICE agent shoots Dominican man in NYC!
ICE
Washington, Oct 8 (EFE).-
United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement identified as Dominican the man wounded by one of its agents during an immigration operation in New York City and defended the action by saying the man had a criminal record and ties to the Trinitarios gang.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, agents were conducting a targeted operation to arrest the man, whom it described as an undocumented immigrant with a previous conviction for grand larceny and prior arrests for assault, robbery, drug possession and weapons possession.

The department also said the man had ties to the Trinitarios gang, which it blamed for shooting a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent last year.

DHS also said New York City police arrested the man in December 2023 but released him days later because of sanctuary city policies, which limit cooperation between local authorities and federal immigration agencies.

The shooting occurred at about 4 p.m. local time (2200 GMT), when an ICE agent fired a weapon and wounded the man, who survived and was taken to a nearby hospital.

DHS said agents provided medical assistance immediately after the shooting.
The immigrant advocacy group Make the Road New York called for a thorough investigation and accountability for those responsible.
The group described the incident as “horrible and heartbreaking” and said, citing reports it had received, that the man was in his car with a 5-year-old child in the back seat when he was shot.
The FBI and Homeland Security Investigations are involved in the investigation. Federal authorities said the incident remains under investigation. EFE
