Barcelona, May 18 (EFE).-

German soccer coach Hansi Flick has renewed his contract with FC Barcelona until Jun. 30, 2028, with the option of extending it by another year, the club announced Monday.

Flick signed his new contract at the club’s offices at the Spotify Camp Nou, which was attended by the acting president, Rafael Yuste; the president-elect, Joan Laporta, and the sports director, Anderson de Souza ‘Deco’, among others.

During the season, Flick, 61, had expressed his desire to extend his stint with Barça, and on May 12 publicly confirmed a deal with the club had been reached.

After winning everything with Bayern Munich (2019-2021) and coaching the German national team (2021-2023) – which did not go beyond the group stage in the 2022 World Cup -, the Flick arrived at Barcelona in the summer of 2024 to replace Xavi Hernandez, who oversaw a season marked by instability and poor results.

Flick’s formula immediately gave results in the Catalan capital. In his first season, Barça won the LaLiga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Supercup, and in this second season they have lifted the Super Cup and the LaLiga.

Beyond the trophies, the German coach has established an offensive and dynamic style of play, much to the excitement of the fans and silencing critics.

With his hands tied regarding new signings due to the club’s economic limitations, Flick has trusted La Masia for fresh blood, and has extracted a best out of most of his players, combining the experience of players such as Robert Lewandowski and Raphael Dias ‘Raphinha’, with the dynamism of the youth, such as Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, Pedro Gonzalez ‘Pedri’ and Pau Cubarsi, among others.
