Miami, US, May 29 (EFE).-
Federal and local law enforcement officials in Miami said Friday they will help make the experience easier for visitors during the FIFA World Cup tournament, amid fears of immigration arrests in the vicinity of the stadiums.

“This is about safety and security of the matches and of the fans. There’s an anticipated influx of visitors to our country to these matches. We’re gonna facilitate that in cooperation and coordination with all federal law enforcement agencies and in compliance with federal statute,” said FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey during a press conference on security preparations for the tournament.

Agents identified drones, lone-wolf attacks, and cybercrime as the main threats and said they are working to minimize the risks.
“The FBI and a select group of law enforcement partners have the authority and the capability to intercept and seize drones that violate these restrictions,” said FBI Special Agent Brett Skiles in Miami.

Skiles added that the Miami FBI’s priority for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is to maintain a safe and secure environment for the teams, fans, and South Florida community.
Miami is one of 11 US host cities for the World Cup, which runs from Jun. 11 to Jul. 19 and is also being held in Canada and Mexico.

Bailey explained that during the seven matches that will be played in the city, they aim to prevent similar incidents to those of the 2024 Copa América final at Hard Rock Stadium, when hundreds of fans without tickets forced their way into the stadium, preventing ticket holders from entering and increasing the risk of crowd surges.

However, the FBI deputy director added that every event of this kind carries a certain level of risk.
During the World Cup, Miami will have two main hubs: Hard Rock Stadium and the FIFA Fan Festival, located in Bayfront Park, which will host events and activities for fans. EFE
