“De noche” (By Night), the film directed by Todd Haynes whose production had to be suspended due to Joaquin Phoenix’s departure last year, will begin shooting in March with Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez in the lead roles, Variety has exclusively announced.
MK2 Films, the French independent production company behind Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value” and Kleber Mendonça Filho’s “The Secret Agent,” is financing the film and handling its international sales.

“De noche” tells the passionate and unexpected love story between a police officer (Pascal) and a professor (Ramirez) in 1930s Los Angeles. They become targets of the city’s corrupt political machine and are forced to flee to Mexico, where the film will be shot.
“This story, starring Pedro Pascal and Danny Ramirez, emerges from a time—highly relevant to our own—of domestic corruption, racial exploitation, and global terrorism. It stands as a testament to the inexplicable power of desire and love to survive and overcome even the most paralyzing human barriers,” Haynes told Variety.
Haynes’s previous films include ‘Carol’, ‘May December’, and ‘Far from Heaven’.
