A Canadian citizen was killed in Teotihuacán Copy Cat!

Mexico City, Apr 21 (EFE).-

The State of Mexico Attorney General’s Office (FGJEM) announced on Tuesday that the individual who shot and killed a Canadian tourist at the Teotihuacán archaeological site the day before had a psychopathic profile. This profile led him to “copy” violent acts committed in other countries.

“The evidence collected so far indicates a psychopathic profile of the aggressor, characterized by a tendency to copy situations that happened in other places, at other times, and by other people,” emphasized the State of Mexico’s Attorney General, José Luis Cervantes Martínez, at the presidential press conference.

The attack left 13 people injured, seven of whom had gunshot wounds. It also resulted in the deaths of a Canadian woman and the perpetrator himself, a 27-year-old Mexican man.

The investigation also revealed that the attack was not spontaneous; the assailant had previously visited the archaeological site, stayed in nearby hotels, and conducted reconnaissance before carrying out the assault.

Cristóbal Castañeda Carrillo, the Secretary of Security for the State of Mexico, detailed that “it was determined that it was a single attacker” and that he arrived at the site using a ride-hailing application from a hotel where he had stayed on multiple occasions.

He confirmed that seven of the 13 injured were hit by bullets and that all the wounded individuals were foreign nationals.

Regarding the injured, Secretary of the Interior Rosa Icela Rodríguez clarified that, as of Tuesday, seven remain hospitalized and six have been discharged.

The Commander of the National Guard, Guillermo Briseño Lobera, confirmed that the aggressor took his own life at the scene.

“He was wounded in a leg; the attempt was to neutralize him in this manner, but he later took his own life,” he added.

Security reinforced

The Mexican Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, stated that “the State’s response was immediate and forceful” and highlighted that National Guard personnel acted “with speed, courage, determination, and effectiveness.”

“The aggressor was located and neutralized within minutes after being wounded in a leg by the authorities. This intervention prevented him from continuing the attack and avoided the loss of more lives,” he said.

He added that, by presidential instruction, “the immediate strengthening of security has been ordered in our country’s archaeological zones and major tourist destinations,” with a greater presence of the National Guard, preventive checks, access controls, and reinforcement of surveillance systems.

When asked about the upcoming World Cup to be played in the country this summer, he said that security for the event “is guaranteed” and stressed that an attack like this had never occurred in an archaeological zone in the country.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her “solidarity with the relatives” of the Canadian tourist who lost her life “and with all the people who are being treated in hospitals and who experienced this situation yesterday,” and affirmed that the event “is not something linked to organized crime.” EFE
