Algerian gymnast Nemour Kaylia won the gold medal in the uneven bars final after a strong performance, defeating Russian Angelina Melnikova at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta on Friday.
Kaylia denied Melnikova her second consecutive gold medal after a perfectly executed final routine allowed her to edge the Russian with 15.556 points. Melnikova, with 14.500 points, had to settle for silver in this category after previously winning gold on vault. Bronze went to China’s Fanyuwei Yang, who tied Melnikova on points.

In the men’s rings category, American Donnell Whittenburg took first place with 14.700 points, followed by Turkish gymnast Adem Asil with 14.566, who lost the top spot in the final exercise after Whittenburg’s performance.
Bronze went to China’s Xingyu Lan with a score of 14.500 points.
Hong Yaming took gold in the hoop horse with a score of 14.600 points. He was followed on the podium with the same score by Armenian Mamikon Khachatryan, who took silver due to a poorer execution of the exercise.
