In the leadup to Father’s Day, two generations of Latino families sit down to talk about intergenerational business and creativity for an audience of business professionals on June 19, 2025. New Jersey City University president Andrés Acebo will moderate the father-daughter conversation, which will be in English. Brunch Con Familia, a business networking event, takes place from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the riverside restaurant Son Cubano in West New York, New Jersey. Tickets cost $30 for buffet brunch and cash bar; the event is open to the public. West New York Mayor Albio Sires is expected to be in attendance. Attendees are invited to stay for a World Cup Watch Party beginning at 3 p.m. at the restaurant, to see the United States play Australia.

The daughters, Marisol Medina and Evangelia Artemis-Gomez, bring creative spark to the conversation. They are each performing artists and involved in their fathers’ respective businesses; Marisol also worked at the New Jersey Hispanic Chamber of Commerce during her father’s tenure as president of the organization. Evangelia is an artist who contributed to one of the new partnership’s first projects, Soccer Gods.

Soccer Gods

Soccer Gods, the first flagship project, is an original storyworld created by Jeff Gomez in which legendary heroes, folklore creatures, mythological beings and cultural icons from around the world compete in an extraordinary global soccer tournament. Soccer Gods trading cards, a limited edition set of 13 cards, mark the first stage of the franchise.

In addition to Evangelia, who created the Iara trading card, Soccer Gods artists on hand at the event to sign their original and licensed character cards include Chrysoula Artemis (Ekeko), Ray Lago (Alexander Hamilton) and Joseph Rouleau (Torodon).

Agent Modesto

The second flagship initiative is Agent Modesto, an original character and adventure property created by Carlos Medina that will be developed through publishing and storytelling initiatives designed to expand the character’s audience and long-term franchise potential. Apropos of Father’s Day, Agent Modesto is based on Carlos’s own father, Modesto Medina, for whom the educational foundation is named.

Building Entertainment, Opportunity and Community

While the partnership’s initial projects focus primarily on entertainment and intellectual property development, both organizations share a commitment to supporting creativity, entrepreneurship, cultural awareness and educational opportunity.

“Our vision has always been to bring people together through popular culture,” said Carlos Medina. “Brunch Con Familia is about celebrating what becomes possible when people with different talents and perspectives work together, especially fathers and daughters.”

“Our first responsibility is to create great stories and compelling experiences,” said Starlight Runner founder and CEO Jeff Gomez, whose transmedia producer credits include Pirates of the Caribbean, Avatar, Ultraman and the new graphic novel Deep Down. “When those stories also cultivate new talent, encourage creativity, build confidence and opportunity, the impact extends far beyond entertainment.”
