Hugo Neu Realty Management – Kearny Point

Kearny, NJ — February 10, 2026 – By Cristina Pinzón

Hugo Neu Corporation today announced the appointment of Michael Meyer as President of Hugo Neu Realty Management, in recognition of his long track record of leadership in transformative real estate development and his commitment to economic, social, and environmental sustainability. His authority and responsibility will address the strategic and operational integrity of Kearny Point, not only to maintain the property’s current success but also to ensure its growth and promising future.

Meyer previously served as Director of Development at Hugo Neu Realty Management, where he played a key role in the redevelopment of Kearny Point, a historic 130-acre industrial shipyard located on the banks of the Hackensack River in South Kearny, New Jersey. Formerly a shipbuilding complex, Kearny Point is being repositioned as a modern industrial campus with warehouses, small business incubation, and flexible office environments. Under his leadership, the project has prioritized environmental sustainability, economic growth, and significant community impact, demonstrating how well-thought-out industrial development can strengthen both businesses and surrounding communities.

“Mike brings an exceptional combination of development experience, public sector leadership, and a deep understanding of how real estate can contribute to the common good,” said Peter Kelman, CEO and Chairman of Hugo Neu Corporation. “His vision and experience make him the ideal person to lead Hugo Neu Realty Management into its next phase of growth.”

Prior to joining Hugo Neu, Meyer was a key figure in New Jersey’s urban development efforts as Director of Housing and Real Estate for the City of Newark.

In that role, he spearheaded a development project exceeding $2 billion, encompassing new residential developments, parks, community facilities, and significant investments in public and private infrastructure. He also oversaw the awarding of public loans and grants to more than two dozen private and nonprofit developers, supporting projects with a total value exceeding $500 million. Notably, during his tenure, Newark tripled its rate of new affordable housing construction.

Previously, Meyer served as Deputy Director of Housing for the City of San Jose from 2002 to 2006, where he helped address the housing affordability crisis in Silicon Valley. He spearheaded the development of a five-year, $400 million housing investment program that resulted in the construction of more than 11,000 new affordable homes across 80 projects. He also helped launch the nationally recognized Teacher Homebuyer Program, which provided more than $30 million in down payment assistance to over 560 public school teachers.

Meyer holds a Master of Political Science from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and a Master of Arts from the University of Wisconsin.
