Egg Smuggling bandits!
Washington, Mar 19 (EFE).-
United States authorities detected an increase in the smuggling of chicken eggs from Canada and Mexico into the US, driven by a sharp rise in the food price, according to the US Customs and Border Protection data released on Wednesday.

In February, US authorities also detected another significant increase of 158% in egg smuggling from Mexico.
The data shows that CBP agents intercepted 116% more eggs smuggled from Canada in January and February compared to the previous two months.
Detroit, on the Ontario border, has seen a 36% increase in interceptions of eggs from Canada, compared to the same period in 2024.
Chicken egg prices have risen sharply in the US in recent months following a year-long outbreak of avian influenza that has forced the culling of large numbers of birds.

In February, the average price for a dozen eggs in the country was 5.90 dollars, almost a dollar more than in January, although in states such as Florida prices can exceed six dollars.
Meanwhile, the average price for a dozen eggs on the Canadian side is 2.52 dollars. EFE
