Woods left in a black SUV, sitting in the passenger seat, in the presence of some media outlets that were waiting outside the Martin County jail, according to images published by US media.

The 50-year-old legendary player was released after spending about eight hours in jail on charges of driving under the influence of substances, property damage, and refusing to submit to a urine test to detect other prohibited substances.

According to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek, the golfer tested negative for alcohol and provided no further details about the accident, which occurred near Woods’ residence in Jupiter and in which neither driver was injured.

The winner of 15 golf majors was driving an SUV at high speed around 2 pm on Friday when he attempted to overtake a cleaning truck towing a small trailer. When he swerved to avoid it, the vehicle rolled onto its side and he was forced to exit through one of the windows.

The sheriff said that Woods showed signs of being under the influence and added that no drugs or medication were found in the vehicle.

After the accident, Woods was taken to the police station. “I’m not trying to dramatize, but it doesn’t matter who you are. If you break the law, we’re going to follow the law,” Budensiek said. EFE
