Near the 30th minute, Yamal threaded a pass to Pedro Porro, who cut the ball back to Dani Olmo. Thibaut Courtois managed an initial save, but the ensuing play resulted in a goal by Fabian Ruiz Peña.

However, a cross from Timothy Castagne on the right wing was finished by Charles De Ketelaere, the first player to score against Spain in this World Cup.

In the 71st minute, Thibaut Courtois had to leave the field due to discomfort in his left thigh. He was replaced by debutant Senne Lammens, who played a key role in the goal that eliminated Belgium and sent Spain through.

A long-range shot by Pau Cubarsí forced Lammens to make a poor clearance inside the box, and the opportunistic Mikel Merino sent the ball into the back of the net for the 2-1 that gave Spain the victory. EFE
