Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum affirmed this Wednesday that the 2026 World Cup has allowed the world to witness the hospitality and festive spirit of Mexicans, hours before the national team’s match against the Czech Republic, their final group stage game.
During her morning press conference, the president was asked about the main message she believes Mexico has conveyed internationally as one of the World Cup host countries, co-organized with the United States and Canada.
“Joy. Happiness. Excitement,” she responded.

Sheinbaum highlighted the presence of thousands of foreign fans who have arrived in the country to follow the competition and participate in the celebrations taking place throughout the Mexican capital.
“Yesterday with the Colombia game, right? The Colombians. Yes. They almost went to the Angel of Independence,” she remarked, referring to one of the main gathering points for sporting celebrations in Mexico City.
The president also mentioned the presence of South Korean fans, who have supported their team throughout the competition.

“Even though we beat them, the Koreans have also celebrated,” she noted.
For the Mexican leader, the atmosphere generated by the World Cup has served to project a positive image of the country to visitors of different nationalities.
“So, what is shown is what the people of Mexico are like: friendly, welcoming with open arms anyone who comes to Mexico, and the joy they generate,” she expressed.
The president considered that the tournament has contributed to an atmosphere of enthusiasm among the population and acknowledged that the good results obtained by the Mexican national team have increased that spirit.

“And we are happy when the people are happy, we are happy. And we are also happy because the national team has won,” she said.
Mexico will face the Czech Republic this Wednesday at the Estadio Ciudad de México, known as Azteca, in the final match of the group stage, a game with which the national team will prepare for the round of 32 of the World Cup.
Given this commitment, Sheinbaum sent a message of support to the national team: “All the luck and all the good vibes from all the people of Mexico.”
