President Donald Trump renewed his threat on Sunday to unleash “hell” on Iran if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened. The president, however, hinted at an extension of the ultimatum until Tuesday at 8:00 pm (Washington time).

“Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH!” the president wrote on his social network, Truth Social. Trump warned that attacks would specifically target the Islamic Republic’s electrical infrastructure and bridges.

In an interview with Fox News, the Republican stated that he believes he can reach an agreement with Tehran. However, he warned that, if this is not the case, he plans on “blowing up the whole country” to seize Iranian oil.

Hours later, Trump hinted at a new postponement of the ultimatum until Tuesday in a phone interview with ‘The Wall Street Journal’, to which he declared: “If they don’t do something by Tuesday evening, they won’t have any power plants and they won’t have any bridges standing.”

Additionally, Trump posted a message without context (“Tuesday, 8:00 P.M. Eastern Time!”) that could refer to the new deadline given to Iran.

Mediation efforts and energy crisis

In the face of the imminent deadline, international mediators have intensified their efforts. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Iran to act with common sense, prioritizing dialogue to normalize transit through the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil circulates.

Meanwhile, Oman has held active discussions with Iranian representatives to analyze options that guarantee the opening of the maritime route. The crisis caused a spike in global crude prices, leading Ukraine’s allies to ask Kyiv to suspend its attacks on Russian refineries.

Escalation of Iranian Attacks in the region

Iran claimed on Sunday to have launched a series of attacks against energy infrastructure in Israel and US-linked facilities in the Gulf. The United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Kuwait reported significant damage to their energy installations following missile and drone strikes.

In Israel, the direct impact of an Iranian projectile on a residential building in Haifa caused at least four injuries. Iran’s mission to the UN urged the organization to act immediately against what it called Trump’s “shameless” threats that could “drag the region into an endless war.”

Conflict in Lebanon and military situation

On the Lebanese front, President Joseph Aoun is seeking to open negotiations with Israel to stop a war he called senseless. The Lebanese government’s objective is to prevent the south of the country from suffering the same devastation as the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Israel continues its ground invasion in southern Lebanon, where the death toll has risen to 1,461 people since March 2. Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir affirmed that they will not waste the opportunity to “change the security reality” on the border.

Finally, President Trump revealed that the second serviceman rescued after his fighter jet was shot down last Friday had “sustained injuries.” The soldier remained in enemy territory for seven hours before being recovered in a complex rescue operation. EFE
