Latina Civic Action Stands in Solidarity with the Hunger Strikers Inside Delaney Hall Demanding Humane Conditions and their Immediate Release from Detention
We Thank Governor Mikie Sherrill and US Senator Andy Kim for Visiting Delaney Hall, Demanding Access Inside the Facility and Standing Alongside the Families of those Detained.

Latina Civic Action raises its voice in unwavering solidarity with all the families of the detained immigrant workers currently suffering in detention at Delaney Hall. More than 300 immigrants are being unlawfully detained by ICE under inhumane conditions. Hundreds of courageous activists and families have held three days of actions in-front of Delaney Hall– refusing to be silenced– in support of the hunger strikers inside the facility.
We want to thank Governor Mikie Sherrill, the first sitting Governor of NJ, to visit this detention facility, for visiting Delaney Hall, demanding access to the facility, and bearing witness to the plight of families desperate for the welfare of their loved ones. Her presence brought much needed support and hope to the children and families of the detained. Governor Sherill was denied entrance to the facility, but her commitment to using all tools at her disposal to hold ICE accountable for the inhumane treatment of our immigrant neighbors is essential to bring accountability and justice to those unlawfully held inside this private detention facility in New Jersey. While she doesn’t have authority over this facility, her presence demonstrates her commitment to work with advocates to protect the constitutional and human rights of all New Jerseyans.
We at Latina Civic Action are deeply grateful for her leadership and our community will remember it. We commit to continue to work with the advocates and the Mikie Sherrill Administration to bring attention to the ongoing abuse of power by the Trump Administration on their Federal immigration crackdown against our law-abiding immigrant brothers and sisters. Latina Civic Action thanks Governor Sherrill for adding her voice to the call for respect for the human rights of all our immigrant neighbors.
We want to also thank Rep Rob Menendez, Rep Analilia Mejia, Rep Nellie Pou, Rep Monica McIver and Senator Andy Kim for their ongoing oversight of Delaney Hall and their courageous and steadfast presence at the facility to support the families seeking to visit their relatives. Your presence gives families hope. It gives the detained strength; It tells them they are not forgotten.
“The goal of the hunger strike is to improve conditions and to demand the release of all immigrant workers illegally detained without a trial,” stated Dr. Campos-Medina, President of Latina Civic Action. “The men and women in this hunger are not criminals– they are workers, parents, and spouses who built their lives with dignity and hard work. Some have been robbed of nearly a year of their lives without ever standing before a judge. Their children wait. Their spouses wait. And still, the conditions inside worsens and families are denied the simple human right to visit their loved ones. We will not allow the world to forget that behind those walls are human beings– nuestra gente. This cruelty must end. It must end now,” states Dr. Campos-Medina who also visited the facility today.
