Trump on Sunday threatened to launch strikes on Iranian infrastructure

New York, Apr 5 (EFE).-

President Trump on Sunday threatened to launch strikes on Iranian infrastructure if Tehran does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz by early next week.

“Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social, warning of potential attacks on Iranian infrastructure.

“Open the f@#kin strait, you crazy b@$t@r#s, or you’ll be living in hell. Just watch! Praise be to Allah,” he added, reiterating his ultimatum to reopen the strategic waterway.

Trump said the deadline expires at 8:00 p.m. Washington time on Apr. 6.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of global oil shipments pass, has become one of the most destabilizing elements of the conflict that escalated on Feb. 28 following U.S. and Israeli airstrikes against Iran.

Trump has repeatedly warned in recent days that failure to reopen the strait would trigger military action, including strikes on Iranian power plants and other infrastructure, a move analysts say could further push up global energy prices and disrupt supply chains.

Separately, Trump said Sunday that the second crew member of a U.S. F-15 fighter jet shot down by Iran on Friday had been rescued after spending seven hours in Iranian territory and is in critical condition.

“We have rescued the seriously wounded, and really brave, F-15 crew member from deep inside the mountains of Iran,” Trump wrote, adding that the serviceman is “a highly respected colonel.”

Trump described the rescue as a rare, high-risk operation conducted in broad daylight while Iranian forces were “intensely searching” for the missing airman.

One of the two crew members was rescued shortly after the aircraft was downed, while the second remained missing, prompting a search that lasted several hours before the recovery operation.

Trump said he will hold a press conference Monday at 1 p.m. local time in Washington alongside military leaders to provide further details.

The downing of the US F-15 marked the first such incident since the conflict escalated in late February, raising fears of further confrontation between Washington and Tehran. EFE
