Indonesia bans children from social media!
Indonesia says Meta and Google are not compliant with regulations!
Yakarta, Mar 31 (EFE).-
Indonesia urged Meta and Google on Tuesday to start implementing changes to comply with regulations banning children under 16 from accessing social media networks.

Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid said in a video shared by the Indonesian news agency Antara that these two companies, which oversee platforms such as Twitch, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, have not complied with the provisions of the new regulations.

On Saturday, Indonesia became the first Southeast Asian country to restrict social media access for children under 16, following a trend set by Australia and adopted by other countries, including Spain.

Indonesian authorities have not yet provided details on the verification technology to be used for the restriction, so each company is implementing its own model to “detect and deactivate” accounts in the banned age group.
Hafid said Tuesday that Meta and Google had not yet restricted access to the networks they manage despite the ban taking effect, after pointing out on Friday, on the eve of its implementation, that their platforms had not yet informed about the steps they would take in this regard.

The minister said that the government has also sent warning letters to TikTok and Roblox for not yet fully complying with the regulations.
The Asian country’s restriction affects eight platforms —YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live and Roblox— and around 70 million children. EFE mca/pd
