Gilbert was killed in the Lima district of Chorrillos

Lima, Mar 25 (EFE).-

Congressional candidate Gilbert Infante of the Faith in Peru Party (Fe en el Perú in Spanish) was murdered in the Lima district of Chorrillos, announced the party’s presidential candidate Álvaro Paz de la Barra on Wednesday.

Paz de la Barra, the leader of the Faith in Peru party said on several local programs that Infante, the 25th candidate on the Faith in Peru list for Congress, was murdered “in a brutal way” on Tuesday night while leaving a party in the southern district of Lima.

“They killed him with a brick. They told him they weren’t going to use firearms, but that he was going to suffer,” said Paz de la Barra, adding that Infante was seriously injured on the street and died at Casimiro Ulloa Hospital in Miraflores.

“He was going to meet with those who accompanied us outside the presidential debate. I only found out at 5:00 am this morning from his wife and family that he was murdered while leaving. It is not an accident; it is a murder,” he added.

“They told him, ‘You are going to die slowly, just as your president says that we in jail will get life imprisonment,'” said Paz de la Barra.

In addition, he said that along with the victim, other party members have received threats but chose not to report them to Peruvian authorities.

“Infante had been threatened. He came to my house with all the others who were threatened. They showed me their messages,” he said.

In a February interview, Infante stated that a decision was needed to combat criminality in Peru, affirming that his party could pacify the country “in 100 days with political willpower and strong leadership.”EFE
