SHI International and WeLoveU Foundation Launch Tree Planting Initiative in New Jersey
Two Groups Join Forces to Help Achieve Carbon Neutrality By 2050
Middlesex, NJ —
On Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., around 80 volunteers from the International WeLoveU Foundation (hereinafter WeLoveU), SHI, and Black Culture Collectives teamed up to create a greener future by planting 15 trees—maples, oaks, and birches—and 10 shrubs in Mountainview Park, Middlesex, New Jersey. Each tree planted plays a vital role in improving air quality, supporting local wildlife, and combating climate change. This collaborative effort is part of the Mom’s Garden Project, an environmental initiative WeLoveU carries out globally, with the goal of planting 1 million trees by 2026 to help achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

“I’m proud to partner with the WeLoveU Foundation in this meaningful effort to plant trees and strengthen our community. Together, we’re taking actionable steps toward a more sustainable future, demonstrating our commitment to environmental stewardship and fostering a legacy of care for future generations,” said Kevin English, Sr. Director – Modern Workplace Services.

According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, planting trees and plants has many benefits such as boosting mental and physical health, protecting people from diseases, and serving as a vital source of food and nutrition. Trees also reduce the effects of flooding and decrease stormwater runoff, which causes erosion and pollution in waterways.

“In 2022, WeLoveU began the Mom’s Garden Project to encourage our communities to join us in taking action to restore our ecosystems, conserve the natural environment, and significantly reduce our carbon footprint through tree planting efforts,” expressed WeLoveU Program Coordinator Jessica LoGreco. “We’re thrilled to continue this partnership with SHI and the New Jersey community.”
WeLoveU and SHI will hold another tree-planting event on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024, at the West Bouldin Creek Greenbelt in Austin, Texas. These tree planting activities are just a few of the many initiatives undertaken by SHI and the WeLoveU Foundation to promote sustainability and community involvement. Over the past two decades, WeLoveU has extended its reach to over 73 countries in 249 regions, impacting countless lives through initiatives spanning emergency relief, education, health, environment, and community well-being.
