Beijing, May 16 (EFE).-
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping will make a state visit to the United States this fall, after accepting the invitation of his US counterpart, Donald Trump.

Wang said late on Friday in statements to the press, shared by the Chinese Foreign Ministry, that both sides must work together to prepare thoroughly, create a favorable environment and achieve more substantial results in contacts and exchanges between the two heads of state.
The foreign minister said that the relationship between China and the United States “is the most important and complex in the world” and stressed that diplomacy between heads of state was the “guiding star” of the relationship.

He also noted that during the meeting held between Xi and Trump in Beijing on Friday, both leaders agreed to maintain close contact through meetings, phone calls and exchange of correspondence.
At a state banquet in Beijing on Thursday, Trump raised a toast for his Chinese host and extended an invitation for Xi to visit with his wife, Peng Liyuan, the White House on Sep. 24.

The two leaders also agreed, according to Xinhua, to support each other in the organization of the informal meeting of leaders of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), scheduled for Nov. 18 and 19 in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, and the G20 summit on Dec. 14 and 15 in Miami, USA.
According to media reports, this state visit would be the first by a Chinese leader to the United States in more than a decade.

In September 2015, Xi was received by then-President Barack Obama on his state visit to the US. Six months later, he returned to Washington DC to attend the Nuclear Security Summit. EFE imh/sc
