Santo Domingo, 22 Nov (EFE).-

An energetic Bad Bunny electrified the thousands of fans who packed Santo Domingo’s Estadio Olímpico on Friday night as he kicked off his much-anticipated Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour, named after his latest album.

The show began around 10 p.m. local time (0200 GMT Saturday), with the Puerto Rican superstar promising “a unique night.”

“We’re going to dance a lot, we’re going to have a good time, we’re going to laugh, we’re going to cry,” said the artist — known as the “Conejo Malo” — dressed in a beige suit and backed by a 10-piece band.

Bad Bunny, 31, recently named by Billboard as the top Latin artist of the 21st century, performed hits including “Callaita” and “Baile Inolvidable,” both from his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour World Tour album. The record, released Jan. 5 and featuring 17 tracks, mixes tributes to Puerto Rico with critiques of the island’s challenges.

Throughout the set, he interacted constantly with the crowd, drawing roars as he repeatedly shouted out the Dominican Republic, which he calls his second home.

“I’ve really enjoyed being a tourist here — though I don’t know if ‘tourist’ is the right word, because when I’m here, I feel at home,” said Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, his real name. He will perform again Saturday at the stadium.

Dominicans and Puerto Ricans, he added, “have a lot in common. One of those things is that it’s summer all year here,” he said from a stage structure called La casita, where he performed the global smash “Tití Me Preguntó.”

Standing on its rooftop, he amped up the crowd with “Yo Perreo Sola” and brought a fan onstage for a hug — one of the most cheered moments of the night. “There’s something beautiful about this,” he told the audience. “Even though I don’t know all of you, we can connect through music.”

He also performed “25/8,” a song included exclusively for the Santo Domingo show and not on the setlist for the rest of the tour.

Bad Bunny closed the three-hour-plus concert by thanking the Dominican Republic and the crowd.

“Thank you for this night, Santo Domingo, for giving me such beautiful energy — the energy I needed to start the tour in the best way,” he said.

“This concert was excellent — amazing. It exceeded my expectations,” fan Emanuel Ferreires told EFE after the show.

“We enjoyed it so much. Bad Bunny brought all that energy from Puerto Rico, and we had a great time,” said fan Juan Óscar Sufrón. “Being the first concert of the tour, it was very good.”

Six hours before the show was scheduled to start, thousands were already lining up outside the stadium. The tour will also stop in Costa Rica, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Australia, Japan, Spain, Portugal, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, France, Sweden, Poland and Italy, before concluding in Belgium on Jul. 22, 2026.

Hundreds of fans remained stuck outside even after the concert began because of access issues.

Bad Bunny made history in January by selling out a 30-show run titled No me quiero ir de aquí at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in record time.

He was Spotify’s most-streamed Latin artist in the world in 2024. His recent albums Un Verano Sin Ti and Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana also broke streaming records. EFE
