Sisters Venus and Serena Williams have received a wild card to compete in the women’s doubles tournament at the US Open, the organizers announced Wednesday.

Venus, 46, and Serena, 44, recently competed in the women’s doubles at the Cincinnati Open, where they were eliminated in the first round.

It was their first appearance together in four years, since their early exit at the 2022 US Open. The two sisters have won 14 Grand Slam titles – nine of them the US Open – and three Olympic gold medals as a pair.

Serena, who will not participate in the singles draw, played mixed doubles yesterday with Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, where she displayed a high level of play, but it wasn’t enough to advance past the second round.

Venus will compete in singles thanks to her wild card.

The US Open also announced on Wednesday the withdrawal of Brazilian Joao Fonseca, number 26 in the ATP rankings, from the men’s singles draw.
