Los Angeles, US, Oct 8 (EFE).-

Taylor Swift has officially broken Adele’s long-standing record for the best-selling album in a single week in the United States, according to data released on Wednesday by Billboard.

Swift’s latest studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, sold 3.5 million units in its first week after its release last Friday, surpassing Adele’s 25, which sold 3.378 million copies in 2015.

“This marks a new milestone not only for Taylor Swift but for the music industry as a whole,” Billboard reported, citing figures from the data-tracking firm Luminate.

The achievement comes nearly a decade after Adele set her historic record, underscoring Swift’s continued dominance across formats and generations of fans.

“Taylor Swift has redefined the economics of the modern album,” Billboard wrote. “Her blend of nostalgia and innovation is reshaping how artists release and monetize music.”

In just 24 hours, The Life of a Showgirl sold 2.7 million copies, including 1.2 million vinyl records, setting a new record for vinyl sales in a single week.

The pop star’s ability to sustain both digital and physical sales highlights her unique connection with audiences in an era dominated by streaming platforms.

Swift also accompanied the album’s release with a film described as an “album launch party,” in which she explored the creative process behind the project.

The film earned 15.8 million dollars on its opening day and has now reached 46 million dollars globally, according to Billboard’s box office tracking.

“Taylor continues to redefine what an album release looks like,” said a source close to Billboard. “Her ability to merge music, storytelling, and cinema has created a new standard for global artists.”

With The Life of a Showgirl, Swift moves away from the introspective melancholy that defined The Tortured Poets Department (2024) and her darker, more reflective sound.

The new album revisits the upbeat, melodic pop that shaped her earlier career, marking the return of longtime collaborators Max Martin and Shellback, who co-produced several of her chart-topping hits such as Blank Space and Shake It Off.

Critics have described the album as a “celebration of glamour and vulnerability,” balancing theatrical production with emotional clarity.

The project also reflects Swift’s evolution as a songwriter and producer, maintaining her stronghold on the pop industry nearly two decades after her debut. EFE
