Paris, Feb 24 (EFE).-

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender Achraf Hakimi is to face trial on a charge of rape stemming from a complaint filed by a woman in February 2023, an investigating judge has ruled, following a request from the Nanterre prosecutor’s office.

Hakimi, 27, a Spanish-Moroccan international and former Real Madrid academy player, posted on X that the accusation is “false” and that the trial would determine the truth.

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial even when I contest it and everything shows that it is false. This is just as unfair to the innocent as it is to genuine victims,” Hakimi said.

“I am calmly awaiting this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

The trial date has not been set yet but will take place in a criminal court in the Paris region. The announcement comes on the eve of PSG’s Champions League match against Monaco.

At a pre-match press conference, coach Luis Enrique Martínez declined to comment, saying it is in the hands of the justice system.

Hakimi, who won the Champions League with PSG in 2025, was formally charged in March 2023, shortly after a woman filed a complaint at a police station in Nogent-sur-Marne, east of Paris.

According to media reports, the two had met through Instagram in January 2023, and the woman went to Hakimi’s Boulogne-Billancourt home on Feb. 25 in an Uber paid for by the player.

The complainant alleges Hakimi kissed her and engaged in non-consensual sexual contact. She said she escaped and contacted a friend for help.

Hakimi has denied any non-consensual sexual activity, acknowledging only mutual hugs and consensual kissing.

His lawyer, Fanny Colin, criticized the case, saying the proceedings are “based on an accusation that relies solely on the word of a woman who has obstructed every investigation” and pointing to her refusal to undergo medical exams, DNA testing, or forensic phone analysis.

The complainant’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, said she would not tolerate any smear campaign or attempt at destabilization, noting such cases are “always difficult,” especially against a well-known person. EFE
