The K-Pop phenomenon ‘Demon Hunters’ cemented its global stardom on Thursday by receiving two Oscar nominations: Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song. This historic recognition of K-pop’s influence on global cinematic storytelling is a testament to the genre’s impact.
The Netflix film will compete for the Best Animated Feature award against titles such as ‘Arco’, ‘Elio’, ‘Little Amélie or the Character of Rain’, and ‘Zootopia 2’.

Its song ‘Golden’, the hit by the film’s fictional group HUNTR/X, is vying for the Best Original Song award alongside ‘Dear Me’ by Diane Warren, ‘I Lied You’ by Sinners, ‘Sweet Dreams of Joy’ by Viva Verdi, and ‘Train Dreams’, the theme song for the film of the same name.
The film lands in the nominations for the most prestigious awards in the film industry, buoyed by its Golden Globe wins on January 11 for Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature Film—a historic triumph as the first production of its kind to win these accolades.

Since its release on June 20, the project directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans has been a resounding success on the platform, breaking records and solidifying K-pop as a global cultural phenomenon that extends far beyond music.
The song “Golden” surpassed 100 million weekly streams worldwide for the first time, according to Billboard.
The main theme, performed by the protagonists at the end of the film, also topped the Billboard Global 200 chart in the first week of August with 113.4 million streams, a 15 percent increase over the previous week, surpassing hits such as ‘Ordinary’ by Alex Warren, or ‘Jump’ by the South Korean k-pop band BLACKPINK.
