Madrid, Sep 18 (EFE).

Carolina Herrera staged its main runway show in Madrid’s Plaza Mayor on Thursday, marking the first time in more than four decades that the fashion house departed from its usual base in New York to present a collection.

The event drew more than 800 attendees and a strong presence from the world of cinema, including Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar.

The spring-summer 2026 collection, led by creative director Wes Gordon, transformed Madrid’s most emblematic square into a runway.

The move underscored a broader trend in global fashion: shifting from traditional catwalk venues to culturally iconic locations.

Carolina Herrera, born in Caracas in 1939 and recognized as an enduring icon of elegance, did not attend the event herself.

Still, her absence did not overshadow the night, as Plaza Mayor became the stage for a spectacle that merged style with cultural symbolism.

The world of cinema played a central role in the evening, highlighting the close ties between film and fashion.

Pedro Almodóvar, Spain’s most internationally acclaimed director, was among those present, reinforcing the show’s cinematic allure.

Actors, filmmakers, and singers filled the historic square, many dressed in vibrant Carolina Herrera designs that echoed the brand’s bold aesthetic.

The strong turnout from the film industry gave the runway a red-carpet atmosphere, positioning Madrid as a rising hub where cinema and fashion converge on the global stage.

With the Plaza Mayor transformed by a pale-pink carpet and illuminated for the occasion, the show positioned Madrid as more than just a backdrop.

It symbolized the city’s growing status as a cultural capital capable of hosting events that bring together cinema, fashion, music, and art. EFE
