Los Angeles, US, Sep 2 (EFE).-

A California jury on Tuesday dismissed a civil assault lawsuit against Cardi B filed by a former security guard, who was seeking $24 million in damages for a 2018 altercation.

In under an hour, the jury determined that Emani Ellis did not demonstrate sufficient evidence of assault and battery, negligence and emotional distress to convict Cardi B, and absolved the American rapper of any civil liability in this case.

“I am not even playing around. Even if I’m on my deathbed, I swear to God, I will say it in my deathbed, I did not touch that woman. I did not touch that girl. I didn’t lay my hands on that girl,” the rapper said after the trial.

The former security guard had accused the rapper of hitting her, scratching her face and spitting on her during an argument in the hallway of a doctor’s office in Beverly Hills, California.

Ellis, who worked at the medical center where the incident occurred, claimed that the rapper’s long nails caused cuts on her face that required plastic surgery.

The rapper, who was pregnant at the time and was seeing her obstetrician, denied that she touched, scratched or spat at the security guard.

The plaintiff sought damages including medical expenses, compensation for emotional and physical suffering, and lost wages, along with punitive damages and a reported $24 million.

After the verdict was announced, the rapper thanked her lawyers and lamented having missed her children’s first day of school due to this lawsuit, which she called “frivolous.” EFE mvg/tw
