Seoul, Aug 20 (EFE).-
The South Korean boy who starred a decade ago in “Baby Shark Dance,” the most-viewed video in YouTube history, has returned to the spotlight, this time as a teenage K-pop singer.
Geonroung Park, 17, known as Baby Shark Boy, released his first digital single Thursday, a dance track titled “Wave” that draws on the viral song that made him famous as a child.

“It still feels surreal that something I recorded for fun as a child is remembered by so many people around the world almost 10 years later,” Park told EFE.

“Wave” is an electropop song with trap elements that opens with the familiar melody of “Baby Shark” before shifting into a dance track, according to Pinkfong, the South Korean company behind the franchise.

The company also plans to release a documentary about the making of the single.
Park was seven when he appeared in the 2016 video, performing the song’s simple, energetic choreography, which has surpassed 17 billion views on YouTube and has held the platform’s top spot for 69 consecutive months, according to Pinkfong.
Park said being known as “the Baby Shark boy” never became a burden. His classmates knew about his appearance in the video, but treated him normally, he said.

“Even after filming ended, the ‘Baby Shark’ song stayed stuck in my head, and I would catch myself humming it without realizing it,” he said.
For “Wave,” Park also participated in writing the lyrics, using his childhood experience as the song’s central theme.
“‘Baby Shark Dance’ feels like the first wave that began 10 years ago,” he said. “That small wave grew into something far bigger than I could have imagined.”

Park said he hoped the new release would help audiences see him beyond the childhood character who became a global internet sensation.
“I want people to see that the little boy they remember has grown into someone with his own voice and his own stories to tell,” he said. “That little boy really did grow up.” EFE
