Almería, Land of Cinema’ Award!
Almería, Spain, Nov 10 (EFE).–
British actor John Rhys-Davies, celebrated for his roles in “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “Indiana Jones,” and “James Bond, The Living Daylights” will be honored with the ‘Almería, Land of Cinema’ award at the upcoming Almería International Film Festival from Nov. 14 to 23 in southern Spain.
Festival director Enrique Iznaola said the 81-year-old actor is part of “the most iconic sagas in cinema history,” noting his connection to the province through “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” which was partly filmed in Almería.
Rhys-Davies will receive his tribute on Nov.22, when his star will be unveiled on the Almería Walk of Fame before he participates in the festival’s closing gala, where the official awards will be announced.
He joins Spanish actors Eduard Fernández, Adriana Ugarte, and Leo Harlem as this year’s honorees.
The festival will open on Nov. 14, with Ugarte receiving her award, unveiling her star, and attending the screening of Papeles, the inaugural film.
The International Short Film Competition awards gala will be held on November 21, featuring presentations of the Honorary Award to Leo Harlem, the Filming Almería Award, and the Special Award for Series.
The festival will conclude on Nov. 23, with Eduard Fernández unveiling his star, addressing a press conference, and attending screenings of the winning feature and a selection of awarded short films.
This year’s program also includes the ‘Opera Prima’ National Feature Film Competition, the ‘Almería en Corto’ International Short Film Competition, and the FICAL Documentary section, along with film premieres, roundtables, social initiatives, and exhibitions such as ‘34 Faces’ and a tribute to the 25th anniversary of The Pilgrim Factor.
