Trump Threatens 100% Canadian Tariff!
New York, US, Jan 24 (EFE) –
United States President Donald Trump threatened Canada on Saturday with a 100% tariff if it signs a trade agreement with China.
Early on Saturday, Trump criticized the possible deal and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, to whom he referred as Governor Carney, a name he had already used for his predecessor, former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (2015-2025), and which alludes to his repeated comments to make Canada the US’s 51st state.

“If Governor Carney thinks he is going to make Canada a ‘Drop Off Port’ for China to send goods and products into the United States, he is sorely mistaken,” Trump wrote.
“China will eat Canada alive, completely devour it, including the destruction of their businesses, social fabric, and general way of life. If Canada makes a deal with China, it will immediately be hit with a 100% Tariff against all Canadian goods and products coming into the U.S.A,” he added.

The US president wrote again on the matter later on Saturday on Truth Social, “The last thing the World needs is to have China take over Canada. It’s NOT going to happen, or even come close to happening!”
This week, Trump stated at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland that “Canada exists because of the United States.”
Carney responded that Canadians are the “owners” of their home and that their nation can become an example, showing the world does not have to give in to autocratic tendencies. EFE
