A California judge extended temporary protection status Thursday for approximately 60,000 migrants from Honduras, Nicaragua and Nepal who are in the United States.

Temporary Protected Status was scheduled to end Tuesday for approximately 7,000 migrants from Nepal, while the benefit of living and working in the US would end on Sep. 8 for approximately 51,000 Hondurans and nearly 3,000 Nicaraguans.

The Trump administration, which has implemented harsh measures against immigration to the US, has repeatedly stated that extending TPS is unjustified, as extending it would increase the number of migrants who could be deported.

The Trump administration has revoked TPS for approximately 160,000 Ukrainians, 350,000 Venezuelans, and at least 500,000 Haitians, among other migrants.

A federal court in Massachusetts upheld its decision on Jun. 25 blocking the implementation of the executive order denying birthright citizenship to the children of migrants.

US District Judge Leo Sorokin said that day that his national ruling issued in February remains in effect, based on an exception to the Supreme Court ruling. EFE
