Sports Desk, May 3 (EFE).-

Goals in each half from Trevoh Chalobah and Nicolas Jackson sealed a 2-0 victory for Chelsea over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League on Thursday, taking the side within sight of a Europa League spot.

The Blues had nearly taken the lead in seven minutes as Jackson collected the ball from Mykhailo Mudryk and beat goalkeeper Gugluielmo Vicario with his shot, only for Micky Van de Ven to rush and clear the ball from the goal line.

Chalobah headed home a perfectly taken Conor Gallagher free-kick midway through the first to bring Chelsea into the lead, which they held despite Tottenham making a few desperate moves in search of an equalizer.

Cristian Romero’s glancing header hit the post while Pape Matar Sarr was denied as Chalobah produced an important block to help Chelsea maintain their lead at the break.

Cole Palmer had his free-kick crash off the crossbar with 18 minutes to go, and Jackson found himself perfectly positioned to guide the rebound past Vicario with a looping header.

“I don’t know if it is the best game of the season, but it is the one I am most happy after. The way we played and in the way we competed, that is what we have wanted from the beginning of the season,” said Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino.

The win at Stamford Bridge took Chelsea’s tally to 51 points, just three points behind Manchester United, who occupied sixth place, the final Europa League spot.

Spurs hold fifth position with 60 points despite three consecutive defeats in the league. EFE
