Colombia Recalls Ambassador from Argentina!
Bogotá, Jan 26 (EFE).-
The Colombian government recalled for consultations its ambassador to Argentina, Camilo Romero, after Argentine President Javier Milei called Colombian President Gustavo Petro a “murderous communist who is bringing down” his country.
The Colombian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that these remarks, made in an interview with journalist Patricia Janiot, “disregard and violate the deep bonds of friendship, understanding and cooperation that have historically united Colombia and Argentina.”
The statement added that the ministry expresses “its strongest protest against the disrespectful and irresponsible statements made by the President of the Argentine Republic, Javier Milei, against President Gustavo Petro.”
The relationship between Petro and Milei has not been smooth, and already when the latter was running for president, the Colombian president lashed out at him for his derogatory remarks about socialists, claiming that “this is what Hitler used to say,” in a reference to the tens of thousands of socialists, communists and trade unionists that the Nazi government sent to death camps.
In addition, the Colombian president has compared Milei to Latin American dictators such as Jorge Videla of Argentina and Augusto Pinochet of Chile.
In the interview with the Colombian journalist and former CNN and Univision personality, Milei also said that his government is “very close to being able to dollarize” the Argentine economy, one of his main campaign promises, and that he is not willing to “negotiate anything” of the bill being discussed in Congress with the key initiatives of his government plan, which has already undergone more than 100 modifications.EFE
