New York City Mayor Eric Adams quits race!
Washington, Sep 28 (EFE).-
New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced Sunday that he will not seek a second term, abruptly ending his re-election bid just weeks before the Nov. 4 local elections.

Adams, who was running as an independent, made the announcement in a video posted on his personal X account.
The move comes despite his repeated insistence in recent months that he would remain in the race and was confident of defeating socialist Democrat Zohran Mamdani, the current frontrunner in the polls.
Adam’s withdrawal reshapes the race into a sharper contest between Mamdani and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who launched an independent candidacy after losing the Democratic primary.

According to United States media reports, Cuomo’s supporters had privately urged Adams to step aside to consolidate the anti-socialist vote behind the former governor.
Recent polls placed Adams in fourth place, trailing Mamdani, Cuomo, and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa, leaving him with little chance of securing re-election.

In his video message, Adams declined to endorse any of the remaining candidates. Instead, he urged New Yorkers to remain cautious about political promises.
“New Yorkers should distrust any politician or movement claiming we must completely destroy the systems we built together over generations to make way for a new, untested order led by supposed saviors,” he said. EFE ecs/seo
