Mayor Ras J. Baraka Endorses Mikie Sherrill for Governor!
NEWARK —
Mayor Ras Baraka announced his formal endorsement of Mikie Sherrill to be the next Governor of New Jersey. Mayor Baraka and Mikie know there is a lot that unites New Jerseyans, and chief among them are their shared goals of lowering costs for families, helping our kids succeed, and bringing accountability and transparency to Trenton.
Together at a meet and greet in Newark, Mikie and Mayor Baraka rallied around a bold vision for the future, focused on building generational wealth for Black communities and closing the wealth gap through expanded first-time homebuyer assistance, improving Black maternal health outcomes, and ensuring that children in every ZIP code have access to a high-quality public school education.
“I am excited to work side by side with Mayor Baraka because we love this state, and we know that for too many New Jerseyans, it’s just too expensive and too hard to get ahead. Together, we’re going to work to address some of our state’s most pressing issues, by expanding access to generational wealth, improving Black maternal health outcomes, and lowering costs for working families. And we know what we’re up against in Jack Ciattarelli, who is going to do whatever Trump tells him while New Jerseyans pay the price,” said Mikie Sherrill.
“I was recently a candidate in the race to be New Jersey’s next governor because I understand how critical the moment we are in now is.This country faces a serious threat which includes our state. We need a governor who will stand up for working people and the issues that affect our community. After a series of conversations about Black maternal mortality, the growing wealth gap, deep inequities around business and home ownership, and clearing a pathway to the middle class for the marginalized, I know that Congresswoman Sherrill is the best choice for us all. She will lead with compassion and strength to not just protect our state from Trump’s overreach but against long standing economic barriers that keep our state divided and unequal,” said Mayor Ras Baraka.
