Mass stabbing at Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan
New York City, US, Jul 26 (EFE).-
At least 11 people were injured in a mass stabbing at a Walmart in Traverse City, Michigan, on Saturday, the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office in this midwestern US state said.

A total of six men and five women were injured in what is being considered a “random act,” and the perpetrator, a 42-year-old Michigan man, is in custody, Sheriff Michael D. Shea said at a press conference, but did not reveal his name.
“Based on the information that we have at this time, it appears they were random acts,” he said, adding that he did not know the victims’ condition.

However, Munson Healthcare, where they were treated, said that it was treating 11 patients as a result of the stabbing incident.
“5 are in serious condition and 6 are in critical condition at this time,” the medical center said in a statement posted on Facebook at 8:30 pm.
“Our hearts continue to go out to the victims and their families,” it added, also thanking its “amazing staff, which responded commendably and admirably under these tragic circumstances.”

The incident started around 5 pm near the checkout area, and the suspect used a folding knife, according to Shea, who also indicated that “there was citizen involvement” in ending the attack, without elaborating.
In the statement, the Grand Traverse Sheriff’s Office said that “citizens in Walmart also assisted in the apprehension and treatment of victims.”
The man was arrested about three minutes after police arrived, according to Shea. EFE rh/pd
