Mandani gets Trump’s blessing!
Washington, Nov 21 (EFE).-
United States President Donald Trump and Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani agreed that their meeting on Friday at the White House was “very productive.” This meeting followed a tense election campaign marked by attacks between Trump and Mamdani.
After the meeting, Trump and Mamdani held a press conference in the Oval Office. Trump remained seated at his desk while Mamdani stood beside him. Both men displayed unexpected cordiality.
Trump said, “I feel very confident that he can do a good job,” and detailed that the behind-closed-doors meeting was “very productive.”
Trump assured New Yorkers that they will hopefully have an excellent mayor and promised to help Mamdani “make everybody’s dream come true.”
Trump, who had previously called Mamdani a “communist,” said that Mamdani “is going to surprise some conservative people actually.”
The mayor-elect, who will take office Jan. 1, 2026, agreed that the meeting was positive and said they both have clear positions. He added that the meeting focused on policies to serve the city’s inhabitants, not their differences.
This shift in stance comes after a long political campaign in which Mamdani called Trump a “despot,” and Trump said that many New Yorkers would flee to Florida because of a potential “communist regime.”
During the question-and-answer session in the Oval Office, Mamdani said they discussed deploying the Border Patrol in New York City, and Trump added that they both want a city “free of crime.”
Zohran Mamdani’s victory in the Nov. 4, 2025, municipal elections was historic. He obtained approximately 50.6% of the votes, compared to 41.2% for Andrew Cuomo and 7.4% for Curtis Sliwa.
At only 34 years old, Mamdani became one of the youngest mayors in the city’s recent history, as well as New York’s first Muslim mayor.EFE
