Atletico de Madrid beats Girona
Madrid, Apr 13 (EFE).-
Antoine Griezmann scored twice as Atletico Madrid came from behind to beat Girona 3-1 at the Civitas Metropolitano on Saturday.
Girona’s Artem Dovbyk bagged his 17th goal of the season to open the scoring for the visitors after just 4 minutes when he tapped in at the back post following a flowing counter attack down the left.
Atletico, who were struggling to put Girona under real pressure, were gifted an equalizer when Miguel Gutierrez was penalized for handball.
Griezmann made no mistake from the resulting penalty to level the score.
The home side were buoyed by the leveler, and went ahead deep in first-half stoppage time when Alvaro Morata chased down a loose ball, kept it in play before whipping in an excellent cross for Angel Correa to nod in.
The second half began as the first had ended – with Atletico on the front foot.
After 50 minutes, Griezmann bagged his second of the match, smashing in a loose ball with his right foot after Mario Hermoso had badly scuffed his clearance.
The win for Atletico leaves cuts the gap to Girona in third place to just four points. EFE
