Israel won’t annex West Bank says Trump!
Washington, Oct 23 (EFE). –
President Donald Trump said Thursday that Israel will not annex the occupied West Bank after the preliminary vote in Parliament to incorporate the territory.
“Don’t worry about the West Bank. Israel’s not going to do anything with the West Bank,” Trump responded during a press conference at the White House.
The Israeli Parliament approved a preliminary reading with 25 votes in favor and 24 against on Wednesday to annex the occupied West Bank. The first step precedes three other votes in the Knesset to turn this bill into law.
US Vice President JD Vance, who is visiting Israel to monitor the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, on Thursday called the West Bank annexation proposal “stupid.”
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the approval of the initiative was “a deliberate provocation” by the opposition to create discord during Vance’s visit.
The proposal, which has also been rejected by Spain, Qatar, Turkey, and others, says: “the State of Israel will apply its laws and sovereignty to the settlement areas in Judea and Samaria, in order to establish the status of these areas as an inseparable part of the sovereign State of Israel”.
Palestine lacks territorial continuity, with Hamas governing Gaza and the Palestinian National Authority, led by Mahmoud Abbas, overseeing the West Bank.
