Iñaki Williams, captain of Athletic Club, commented on the Spanish Super Cup, in which the team will participate next week, saying that in his opinion, “playing in Saudi Arabia is rubbish.”
“I’ve said it many times, and I don’t mince words on these matters. For me, playing in Saudi Arabia is rubbish, to put it bluntly,” the Athletic striker emphasized at a press conference following a training session at San Mamés stadium, attended by more than 30,000 fans.

Athletic Bilbao will play the first Super Cup semi-final on Wednesday, January 7th in Jeddah against FC Barcelona. If they beat the Catalan side, they will play the final on Sunday the 11th against the winner of the Real Madrid-Atlético de Madrid match scheduled for Thursday the 8th.
“Taking a national competition to another country isn’t easy for the fans. Over there, because of our massive fanbase, it feels like we’re playing away from home, and if it were here, we all know how many Athletic Bilbao fans would be there to support us,” added the elder Williams brother.

Iñaki, who is expecting his first child “in the next few days,” added that in his personal case, “having to leave my wife and son here is a real pain.” “But hey, it’s part of the job. I’m at the club’s disposal and I’ll try to do my best in the Super Cup,” he concluded.
