“The Studio” became the most-awarded comedy series in Emmys history, while “Adolescence” won every category for which it was nominated, and its 15-year old star Owen Cooper became the youngest male actor to win in the history of the awards.

The AppleTV Hollywood comedy starring Seth Rogen earned 13 statuettes in total, including best comedy, best directing and best writing for a comedy, and lead actor, surpassing the record set in 2023 by its rival “The Bear,” which had collected 10 awards at the time.

In the best limited series category, Netflix’s “Adolescence” won eight statuettes in the main categories, including best supporting actress for Erin Doherty and best supporting actor for Cooper, who surpassed Scott Jacoby’s 1973 milestone as the youngest male actor to win an Emmy.

Cooper plays Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy accused of murdering a classmate. In addition to the five awards he won at Sunday’s ceremony, he also won three more in the technical categories presented last weekend.

The show’s Stephen Graham, who in addition to collecting awards for best writing and lead actor, dedicated the recognition to his wife: “You are my rock, you are my will, you are my soulmate, and you know and I know without you, I would be dead.”

HBO Max hospital drama “The Pitt” won the best drama series category, defeating “Severance,” the most-nominated series at this year’s Emmy Awards, as its star Noah Wyle triumphed in the best drama actor category.

AppleTV thriller “Severance” garnered eight awards, including lead drama actress for Britt Lower and supporting actor for Tramell Tillman.

“The Penguin” (HBO Max), which started as the most nominated film in the limited series categories, still managed to take home nine awards, positioning itself as the second most awarded project of the night.

In addition, its American actress Cristin Milioti won best actress in a limited series with one of the most moving speeches of the ceremony.

“It’s very hard to make sense of being alive right now in this world, and so I’m deeply grateful for the bright spots,” she said while collecting the award.

Support for Palestine

The 77th Emmy Awards served as a platform for some actors and workers in the Hollywood industry, one of the most powerful in the world, to support the Palestinian people.

Javier Bardem appeared on the awards red carpet wearing a keffiyeh specifically to “denounce the urgent need: Israel’s genocide in Gaza,” he told EFE.

The Spanish actor said sanctions that “must be imposed on the genocidal state of Israel, not only for the ongoing genocide, but also for the apartheid state that causes so much suffering.”

“Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder also closed her speech after receiving the Emmy for best supporting actress in a comedy series, saying: “I just want to say finally: Go birds, fuck ICE, and free Palestine.” ICE refers to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Meanwhile, American comedian Megan Stalter posed on the red carpet with a black bag emblazoned with the words “Cease Fire!”

Evening tributes

The Academy paid tribute to late Black Sabbath lead singer Ozzy Osborne and other Hollywood icons such as actress Michelle Trachtenberg, Maggie Smith, David Lynch, and Quincy Jones.

The gala also offered moments of nostalgia, such as a reunion between Alexis Bledel and Lauren Graham from “Gilmore Girls,” and the appearance of the cast of the long-running series “Law and Order,” led by Mariska Hargitay.

Stephen Colbert, whose Late Show was recently controversially canceled by CBS, a decision celebrated by US President Donald Trump, also received an Emmy for best talk series and was one of the most applauded of the night.

“I have never loved my country more desperately (…) God bless America. Stay strong, be brave,” the comedian concluded his speech, accompanied by a long ovation and shouts of encouragement from the audience. EFE mrl-mvg/tw
