FC Barcelona’s medical staff “immediately” informed the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) of the treatment Lamine Yamal underwent for the pubalgia that has forced Spain’s national team coach, Luis de la Fuente, to withdraw the Barça striker from the final two matches of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

This was confirmed to EFE by sources at the Catalan club, who specified that the club acted responsibly and in coordination with the player, with the sole objective of ensuring his recovery.

Barça’s version contrasts with the statement issued by the Federation, which expressed its “surprise” and “displeasure” at the “invasive radiofrequency procedure” the player underwent. The RFEF maintains that it was not informed of the treatment, something Barcelona denies.

In this regard, the same sources within the Barcelona club clarify that Lamine Yamal remains under the supervision of the club’s medical staff, who maintain constant communication with the RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation).

In this context, Barcelona consulted Belgian doctor Ernest Schilders, an expert in the type of injury the Mataró-born striker is suffering from.

According to the club, Schilders had a scheduled appointment with the player on Monday at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper training complex, the day after the match against Celta Vigo, in which Lamine Yamal was substituted in stoppage time.

During the consultation, the progress of the pubalgia, which is under control, was assessed positively, and it was agreed to apply radiofrequency treatment to further his recovery.

This treatment involves a period of rest and specific monitoring, which, according to Barça, the RFEF was immediately informed of by the club’s medical staff.

Thus, Lamine Yamal will miss the Georgia-Spain match next Saturday, which will be played in Tbilisi, and the match against Türkiye scheduled for Tuesday, November 18 in Seville.
