Cristiana Girelli as Italy’s hero!
Lausanne, Switzerland, Jul 16 (EFE).-
Cristiana Girelli became Italy’s hero on Wednesday night, scoring a 90th-minute header to beat Norway 2-1 and send her team to the Euro 2025 semifinals, a feat they hadn’t achieved since 1997.

“It’s an unforgettable moment. We fought until the end, and this goal means everything,” said Girelli after the match in Geneva.
Italy dominated the first half, creating dangerous chances through midfielders Emma Severini and Arianna Caruso but failing to score.

After the break, Caruso assisted Girelli for the opening goal just five minutes in. Norway responded with pressure and had a chance to equalize, but Ada Hegerberg missed a penalty in the 60th minute.
Six minutes later, she redeemed herself with a powerful shot that tied the game 1-1.

Despite the setback, Italy kept pushing. “We believed in ourselves the whole game,” said coach Andrea Soncin.

In the final minute, Girelli rose above the defense and headed the ball past the keeper to seal the win.
Italy now prepares for the semifinals, full of confidence and fueled by their captain’s determination. “We’re not done yet,” Girelli said. “This team is dreaming big.” EFE int-seo /mcd
